For some services, a referral is not necessary.
Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) involves a device that allows an individual’s glucose levels to be monitored day and night. CGM provides insight into patterns and trends in glucose levels, and can prevent or reduce the frequency of hypo and hyperglycaemia.
Adam is experienced in CGM, and will use the patterns and trends in glucose levels to guide decision making relating to your treatment as well as the education and support provided.
It may be important for you to note that the Australian Government has committed to subsidise CGM technology to assist children and young adults (under 21 years) who face extra challenges managing their type 1 diabetes. Further information is available on the National Diabetes Services Scheme (NDSS) website.
An insulin pump is a small battery-operated device that is programmed to deliver a precise amount of insulin into the body therefore replacing the need for frequent injections. Insulin is delivered through thin tubing known as the infusion set with additional insulin being delivered on demand to account for particular circumstances such as an upcoming meal or to correct high glucose levels.
An insulin pump is not suitable for everyone. Adam can provide you with evidence-based information and advice about what is involved and whether this is a recommended treatment option for you.
